About

Sam McMahon is a street performer and musician based in Sydney, Australia. After a spontaneous busking trip in 2015, Sam has spent eight years developing a career in writing and performing music. Using a skateboard loaded with musical equipment, most of his time is spent wheeling this makeshift trolley to city street corners, markets and events with the goal of creating a performance memorable for the intended/unintended audience.

Sam spent his childhood in the rural community of Candelo, located on the Far South Coast of New South Wales. Music became a major interest in his teenage years, performing whenever and wherever the opportunity presented itself. Whether it was a school assembly or the support slot of a touring artist (Glenn Shorrock, Bruce Mathiske, Doug De Vries), he has always displayed a desire to improve and build on the art form. In 2017, Sam had the opportunity to appear at TEDxYouth@Sydney, which has led to engagements to perform his music nationally and overseas.

Currently, Sam’s focus is to contribute to street culture around the world. By taking the platform of street performance and using it as a vehicle to rehearse and develop his work, he is able to create music for a receptive audience. In an industry where it is easy to concentrate on the tactics, the goal is to find the people who might like to be part of the journey, and to make music specifically for them.
